CISA: China’s crude steel output hits 74.61 million tonnes in August 2026, down 3.7% year-on-year

The China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) released China’s steel production data for August 2026 on September 17. In August, national crude steel output stood at 74.61 million tonnes, a year-on-year drop of 3.7%. The average daily crude steel output reached 2.4068 million tonnes, down 3.0% month-on-month.

Breakdown:

• Pig iron: 67.65 million tonnes (-3.5% YoY), average daily output 2.1823 million tonnes (-1.0% MoM)
• Finished steel: 114.75 million tonnes (-5.5% YoY), average daily output 3.7016 million tonnes (-1.5% MoM)
• Jan-Aug cumulative output: National crude steel production totalled 652 million tonnes, falling 3.1% year-on-year. Pig iron output was 563 million tonnes (-3.1% YoY), while finished steel reached 951 million tonnes (-1.7% YoY).

Key monitored steel enterprises produced 63.2549 million tonnes of crude steel in August, down 3.9% YoY. Average daily output was 2.0405 million tonnes, a 2.4% month-on-month decline.
